Fort Mitchell
When I was a kid, my aunt lived in Fort Mitchell. She and my mother were very close, so I spent countless weekends playing in the tree-lined neighborhood. My aunt’s house happened to be the oldest home built in Fort Mitchell, complete with an attached efficiency apartment and a carriage house she rented out on the grounds. Every visit there was a different pilot at the flop house getting some rest before the next red eye. Halloween was a cherished memory as a kid since this was a hot spot for full-size candy bars!
If you have an appreciation for the charm and character of uniquely appointed large old homes, Fort Mitchell is worth a look. This suburb of Cincinnati, located in Kenton County, is a popular choice for families and professionals thanks to its excellent schools and easy access to Cincinnati. The median household income in Fort Mitchell is $94,783, and the
average home value has increased significantly in the last year to $350,279. Beechwood High School came in 3rd out of all Kentucky high schools in a recent
US News rankings report, giving the area even more bragging rights.
Villa Hills
Another one of my personal favorite areas of Northern Kentucky is Villa Hills; Yet another Kenton County city located just minutes away from downtown Cincinnati, it is known for its upscale homes, stunning river views, and dozens of manmade lakes. The median household income in Villa Hills is $96,091, and the median home value is $310,500. Home to the prestigious Villa Madonna Academy, academics are top-notch. Unsurprisingly, Villa Hills was given a grade A for
Best Places to Raise a Family.
Union
Though Kenton County has certainly earned some bragging rights for its many sought-after cities, it’s time to give Boone County a nod. Union is a growing city in Boone County, Kentucky. It is known for its family-friendly neighborhoods, excellent schools, and easy access to Cincinnati. The median household income in Union is $92,260, and the median home value is $247,000. A major selling point is that though this is one of the fastest-growing cities in Kentucky, it hasn’t lost its small-town feel. Dwellings ranked Union #8 on its list of Best Places to Raise a Family.
Crestview Hills
Fort Mitchell’s neighbor, Crestview Hills is a city also located in Kenton County. It is known for its upscale homes, exclusive country club, golf, private sports club, and top-notch shopping and dining options. The median household income in Crestview Hills is $86,250, and the median home value is $255,500. This area is a suburban playground for both growing families and empty nesters alike.
Fort Thomas
Saving the best for last (since I am biased and live here!), is Fort Thomas, a walkable town with some jaw-dropping city and river views. Nestled in the northern part of Campbell County along the Ohio River lies this former US Army post. One of the things that make Fort Thomas special is its beautiful homes and architecture. No two homes are alike. As a Realtor, it makes for a real deep dive when doing a
CMA. With a wide array of styles, from grand Victorian mansions to cozy bungalows, a walk thru town is like you tore a page out of Architectural Digest. Some of the highest-ranked schools in the state, community events, concerts, nature trails…you name it, Fort Thomas has it. All with a small town feel where everyone is a good neighbor. P.S. if you move to Fort Thomas, you may want to buy a golf cart. It’s the favored means of transportation in this town.
Northern Kentucky offers many communities that offer residents a taste of the good life. High-end shopping, entertainment, golf, country clubs, and all the top-notch amenities of those with discriminating tastes. If you're looking for a place to call home in Northern Kentucky, you would be happy to call any of these noteworthy neighborhoods your new address.
